Janice Hill Barnette

Janice Hill Barnette, age 83, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Mrs. Barnette was born on on September 19, 1941 in the Habersham Mills Community to the late Jay Douglas and Betha Dixon Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, John H. Barnette; brothers, Reeves Hill, Boots Hill, Charles Hill; sisters, Doris Ledbetter, Carolyn Thompson, Lois Wall, and Margaret Batson.

Jan met her husband, John H. Barnette, when she was 19 years old and was working for First National Bank of Cornelia and they were married in 1961. Jan and John joined Level Grove Baptist Church, where they remained life long members for 63 years. Jan served in several positions at the church including nursery co-coordinator from 1961 to 2014, Hostess and Bereavement Committee, and Sanctuary Design Committee in 1999. Jan enjoyed all of her Sunday School Classes throughout the years, especially the Adam and Eve Class of which she was a current member. She was also a member of the Habersham Mills Cemetery Preservation Committee, where she had served as Chairman for several years.

Jan was a homemaker throughout her entire life and took tender care of not only her immediate family but her extended family as well. Jan had a servants heart, and was continually giving to others. She was well known for her delicious meals, most notably her caramel cakes that were given to friends and family throughout the years. Jan loved to work along side John in their garden and yard. Most importantly, she was especially proud of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was fondly known as "Mamo Jan".

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kelley and Rodney Herrin, of Cornelia; Carol and Stewart Swanson, of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Jonathan Herrin and his wife, Emily, Janna Kay Swanson, Kelley Swanson, and Jessi Herrin; great-grandchildren, John Hampton Herrin, Price Herrin, Bennett Herrin; sisters, Peggy Burke of Clarkesville; and Ruth Goss, of Dahlonega.

Graveside Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Yonah Memorial Gardens with Dr. Brian James and Rev. Steve Fenlon officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel prior to the service.
