Winona Holcomb Amos

WINONA HOLCOMB AMOS, age 94, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011. Mrs. Amos was born on October 21, 1916, in Habersham County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late George Burton and Cora Lee Trotter Holcomb. Mrs. Amos was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Amos; daughter, Cheryl Raines; son Jerry Harper; sisters, Louise Burke and Zelma Kenimer; and brothers, James Holcomb and Walter Holcomb. She was retired from the Chicopee Manufacturing Company with 34 years of service and a retired member of the Board of Directors of the Habersham County Department of Family and Children's Service. Mrs. Amos was a member of Demorest Baptist Church and a member of WMU. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Warren Shore, Stockbridge, GA and Marinell and James Batson, Cornelia, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Burt and Glenda Harper, Cornelia, GA, Douglas and Vivian Amos, Cleveland, GA, and Clifton and Linda Amos, Cornelia, GA; sister, Nelle Moon, Cleveland, GA; brother, Corbett Holcomb, Waycross, GA; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Demorest Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Mewborn officiating. Burial will follow in Demorest City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
