William Leroy Smith

WILLIAM LEROY SMITH, age 81, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Mr. Smith was born on July 24, 1934 in Stephens County, Georgia to the late William H. and Lois Bunch Smith. He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of Cornelia Lodge # 92 F. & A.M. Mr. Smith was a graduate of North Georgia Technical College. He was owner and operator of Smith's Small Engine Repair for 21 years, and later retired from the City of Toccoa with 13 years of service. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gerrin Smith; sisters, Florence Hutto; Gladys Galloway; brother, Charles Smith. Survivors include his daughters, Shelia Allen, of Cornelia; Lisa Carlyle, of Cornelia; sister and brother-in-law. Gloria and Mitchell Cromer, of Alto; brothers and sisters-in-law. Monte and Genell Smith, of Cornelia; Edwin and Shirley Smith, of Mt. Airy; Marvin and Gloria Smith, of Baldwin; Doug and Carolyn Smith, of Demorest; grandchildren, Chad and Kimberly Allen, Brandy Allen, Ashlie and Joseph Peck, Taylor Carlyle; great grandchildren, Chasitity, Sidney, and Addison Allen; Baylie Peck; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Johnny Stone and Rev. Gerald Adamson officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Military honors will be provided by the GA National Guard Honor Guard, Rabun County DAV Post #15, the Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, and the American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, November 23, 2015.
