William L. "Dub" Hiers, Jr.

William L. "Dub" Hiers, Jr., age 83, of Cornelia, GA, died Friday, April 20, 2007 in Sanford, Florida. Mr. Hiers was the son of the late William L., Sr. and Helen Freeman Hiers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Scott Hiers, a daughter, Susan Hiers Morris. He attended the University of Georgia where he lettered as a football player. Mr. Hiers was a former member of the Habersham County Rotary Club. He was a manager of Atlanta Gas Light Company in Cornelia for 39 years. Survivors include: his son: Lee Hiers, Cornelia, GA; his son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Angie Hiers, Gainesville, GA; Companion of 12 years: Jean Jacoby, Sanford, FL; his sisters: Hazel Johnson, Sanford, FL; Louise Bruce, Debary, FL; Mildred Peters, Sanford, FL; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Andy Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Arrangements are in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
