MRS. VERNA TRAMMELL BROWN, age 101 of Demorest, passed away, Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the Oaks @ Scenic View Health & Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health. Mrs. Brown was born in Clayton County, GA on January 4, 1907 to the late Doss Cullen and Lilla Mitchell Trammell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Gladden Brown, Jr., brother Claude James Trammell, sisters, Jessie Davis, Louise Sudderth, and Corinne Buckalew, and a son-in-law, Clifton E. Johnson. Mrs. Brown was member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Atlanta Historical Society, Atlanta Woman's Club, Atlanta Writer's Club, Northside Library Club, Printers Inc., The Longstreet Society, Pen Women, Habersham County Historical Society, The Bethlehem Baptist Church Bible Study Group, former member of the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church and the King's Daughters Sunday School Class. Mrs. Brown was an avid published writer and public Speaker. Survivors include daughter, Betty B. Johnson, Clarkesville, GA; sister, Doris Rosser, Savannah, GA; grandchildren Russell Wayne and JoAnn Johnson, Duluth, GA; Rene' and Mike Grant, Clarkesville, GA; great-grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Tucker, GA; Amy Godbee, Brooklet, GA; Ryan Johnson, Duluth, GA; Gretchen Grant, Clarkesville, GA; Georgia Pitts, Cornelia, GA; Ashley Grant, Milford, CT; Gabriel Grant, Demorest, GA; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008 from the Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ashley Grant and the Rev. Adam Eckhard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday.
