Thomas "Tommie" B. Irvin, Sr.

THOMAS "TOMMIE" B. IRVIN, SR., age 84, of Baldwin, Georgia passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010. Mr. Irvin was born in Habersham County, on August 2, 1926, to the late Lee V. and Stella Thomason Irvin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Irvin, Sr., and Lee Irvin Jr., daughter-in-law, Ruthelene Allen Irivn. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Irvin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia. He was a graduate of Cornelia High School. Mr. Irvin was the 16th member of NASCAR and was inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of fame in 2009. He was a United States World War II Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He was the owner of Irvin's Carhartt Store and was a passionate coon hunter most of his life time. Mr. Irvin enjoyed being with his friends. Survivors include wife, Alice Andrews Irvin, Baldwin, GA; daughter, Yvonne Irvin, Baldwin, GA; sons Bruce Irvin, Demorest, GA and Bobby Irvin, Baldwin, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Carol Irvin, Homer, GA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA with Bill Moody and Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Lamar Christian Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
