Thomas E. "Tommy" Marcus

Thomas E. "Tommy" Marcus, age 69, of Clarkesville, Georgia, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Marcus was born on January 20, 1940 in Habersham County, Georgia to the late George G. and Drucilla Heaton Marcus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Junior Marcus and Houston Marcus and a sister, Maebelle Marcus. Mr. Marcus was a United States Army veteran. He was retired from Scovill Manufacturing with 39 ½ years service. He was a cabinetry graduate of North Georgia Technical Institute. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, good neighbor and friend to many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, helping others, and making people laugh. Survivors include wife, Ann Whitfield Marcus, Clarkesville, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Chantay and Greg Beck, Mount Airy, GA, Tanoa and Kenneth Turner, Alto, GA and Shanda and Steve Dowdy, Homer, GA; sister, Mary Alice Ivester, Turnerville, GA, brothers and sisters-in-law, G.W. and Geraldine Marcus, Demorest, GA, Charlie and Hazel Marcus, Cornelia, GA, Claude and Jean Marcus, Clarkesville, GA, J.C. and Kathy Marcus, Clarkesville, GA and James and Annie Marcus, Clarkesville, GA; 8 grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Tolbert, Kiani and Catlyn Free, Kenza and Kyran Turner, LeAnna Dickerson, Layna Dowdy; step-grandchildren, Christina Beck, Lindsay, Will, and Leah Dowdy. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. Jan Devereaux officiating. Burial will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
