Sidney Ray Cantrell, age 27, of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Born on March 23, 1997 with golden hair, blue eyes, and a smile that could light up a room, Sidney was special from the moment he entered this world.
A true sports enthusiast, Sidney loved every kind of sport, but his heart beat strongest for football, basketball, and baseball. As a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, North Carolina Tar Heels and the Georgia Bulldogs, Sidney cheered passionately, win or lose. His love for the game was infectious, and his passion for life extended well beyond the sidelines.
Sidney lived big, always. Everything he did, he did it to the fullest. He was well known for making people feel good. He was always the funny guy who enjoyed being the center of attention whether or not he would admit it. He was resourceful, the kind of person who "knew a guy" for every situation and somehow always found his way back home, no matter where life's adventures took him. He was a man of unique style and original thoughts—never one to follow the crowd, always marching to the beat of his own drum.
But above all, his greatest pride and joy was his son, Kreed. Sidney adored Kreed beyond measure and cherished every moment they spent together. From bath time to one-on-one playtime, Sidney poured his entire heart into fatherhood. Sidney couldn't-and wouldn't-say no to his boy; his favorite pastime was, without question, time spent with Kreed. Sidney was baptized in 2014 where he publicly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. His greatest accolade was being saved. Even in the hardest of life circumstances, he loved the Lord.
Sidney loved his family deeply, and his caring, giving nature was a testament to the love he held for those around him. Sidney's loss leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew him. He will be remembered by his favorite color, Carolina Blue; his passion for his family, and his infectious smile and laughter.
In addition to his son, Kreed, Sidney is survived by his parents, Jason Reynolds Cantrell and Rebekah "Becky" Ward Cantrell, of Demorest; sister and brother-in-law, Lindsey Cantrell Taylor and Collin E. Taylor, of Demorest; maternal grandfather, Ronnie Ward, of Alto; maternal grandmother, Kay Ward, of Alto; paternal grandmother, Vickie Cantrell; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends. Sidney was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jerry Ray Cantrell.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Pastor Scott Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow at the Macedonia Leaf Community Church Cemetery with Collin Taylor speaking.
