Sarah Bessie Jarrell

Sarah Bessie Nicholson Jarrell, age 100, of Clarkesville, GA, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Habersham Home. Mrs. Jarrell was born in Habersham County, Georgia on December 27, 1906 to the late Frank Cleveland and Laura Shedd Nicholson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Jarrell, a granddaughter, Julie Harris, her sisters, Mary Nicholson and Lola Landers and her brothers, Winford, Coolie, Lonnie, and Bill Nicholson. Mrs. Jarrell grew to be a young lady while working a Habersham Mills as did her father and siblings. While she worked at many different jobs she dreamed of a career in nursing and that dream was fulfilled when she graduated from North Georgia Trade and Vocational School as a practical nurse. She worked at Habersham County Hospital and Habersham Home until she was into her eighties where she was known as "Miss Bessie." Her desire was to live at Habersham Home until her death. Mrs. Jarrell was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Survivors include: her children: Bertie Lee and Bill DeMore, James Jarrell, Kenneth and Evelyn Jarrell, and Barbara J. Grant; her sister: Ruth James; her brother: Frank Nicholson, Jr.; Numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Dr. Bill Cashions and Rev. Furman Lewis officiating. Private interment will be held in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 Noon until the funeral hour on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Habersham County Medical Center Foundation, Inc. P.O. Box 37, Demorest, GA 30535 or to Grace Gate, P.O. Box 50, Demorest, GA 30535.
