SANDRA NATION OWEN, age 74, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Owen was born on December 24, 1940 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late Floyd and Maebelle Hicks Nation. She attended Antioch Baptist Church. She was a past member of Habersham Farm Bureau and Habersham Planning Commission. She was Voter Precinct Clerk for Glade Creek Precinct. She was a retired Habersham County school bus driver with 37 years of service and was the first female bus driver in Habersham County. Mrs. Owen also served on The Habersham Hospital Board for several years. She was appointed to the State Farmer's Service Committee, where she served for several years. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Herbert E. Owen Sr., of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Herbert Owen Jr. and Gina, of Baldwin; son, Aaron Anthony Owen, of Conyers; grandchild and spouse, Doctors Brandi and Kyle Wilbanks, of Baldwin; grandson, Brian Owen, of Cornelia; great grandchildren Owen and Emory Wilbanks, of Baldwin. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Jerrell Beatty and Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in The Owen Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Monday May 18, 2015. Flowers are accepted or special memorials may be made to one's favorite charity. Arrangements are in care of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia. 706-778-1700.
