Samuel A. Taylor, age 92, of Demorest, GA, died Monday, October 22, 2007 at the residence following an extended illness. Mr. Taylor was born on September 17, 1915 in Stephens County, Georgia to the late John Pressley and Essie Dodgins Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Taylor as well as several brothers and sisters. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Fairfield Baptist Church and the Habersham County American Legion Post #84. He was a highly decorated United States Army World War II veteran having been a P.O.W. in the European Theatre; he served from July 11, 1941 to August 28, 1945. Mr. Taylor was a farmer. Survivors include: his wife: Christine Smith Taylor, Demorest, GA; daughters and sons-in-law: Joni and Mel Moore, Lake Burton, GA; Charlotte and Michael Caron, Ben Wheeler, TX; son and daughter-in-law: Doyle and Gayle Taylor, Demorest, GA; sisters: Novia Pilgram, NC; Pernell Smith, Demorest, GA; Dallas Coker, Clarkesville, GA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from the Fairfield Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Allison officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. All family and friends will meet at the church. The family will receive friends a the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501. Arrangements are in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
