Royce Higgins

ROYCE HIGGINS, age 75, of Alto, GA, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Habersham County Medical Center. Mr. Higgins was born on April 25, 1932 in Banks County, Georgia to the late Ferd and Lula Martin Higgins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank "Buddy" Higgins and Bobby Higgins, and sisters, Martha "Mott" Garner, Betty "Sweet Pea" Farmer, and Brenda Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a member of the Damascus Baptist Church; there he was a Deacon and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Hollingsworth Lodge # 355 F & AM, a member of the Banks County AARP, and a member and artist at the Tallulah Falls Co-Op Craft Store, as well as a member of the United Commercial Travelers. Mr. Higgins was the owner and operator of several service stations for over 50 years including the Rebel Standard/Chevron in Baldwin, Georgia, for 20 years. Survivors include: his wife: Dorothy Hogsed Higgins, Alto, GA; his son and daughter-in-law: Craig Royce and Ann Higgins, Rye, NY; his sister: Peggy Payne, Baldwin, GA; his brothers: Billy Higgins, Alto, GA; Johnny Higgins, Lincolnton, NC; Preston Higgins, Eatonton, GA; Donald Higgins and Melvin Higgins, both of Cornelia, GA; 3 grandchildren: Caroline, Andrew, and Abby Higgins, all of Rye, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008 from the Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Todd and Rev. Craig Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
