Roy D. Martin

ROY D. MARTIN, age 84, of Alto, GA, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Habersham County Medical Center. Mr. Martin was born on May 11, 1922 in Banks County, Georgia to the late Burie Dean and Mae Reems Martin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Lewallen Martin and a grandson, Douglas Martin. Mr. Martin was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II; there he earned a Purple Heart. He was retired from Fieldale Farms with 18 years of service. Mr. Martin was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and attended Harmony Baptist Church. He was a member of the Banks County American Legion. Survivors include: his daughters: Phyllis Barnett, Deborah Nation, and Donna Wood, all of Commerce, GA; his son: Keith Martin, Commerce, GA; his sisters: Bessie Dooley and Lucille Cagle, both of Homer, GA; Ruth Simmons, Baldwin, GA; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007 from the Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowers are optional or memorial donations may be made to the Roy D.
