ROY E. BROOME, age 81, of Homer, GA passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009. Mr. Broome was born in Jackson County, Commerce, GA, on January 20, 1928 to the late F.E. and Mamie Lee Vaughn Broome. He was preceded in death by his sister, Addie Fay Pearl Broome, and a brother, Ralph Broome. Mr. Broome was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Banks County where he was a deacon and taught Sunday school for a number of years. Mr. Broome was a member of Gideon International and a member of Banks - Jackson East Camp. He was a retired supervisor with Chicopee - Lumite Division with 46 ½ years of service. Survivors include wife of 61 years, Mary C. Broome, Homer, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Keith Epps, of Lula, GA; granddaughter and spouse, Marie and Robert Sosebee, Sunday Oren, Daniel Oren, and Jared Oren; and 4 step-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. James Duncan and Rev. Billy Burrell. Burial will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the funeral home.
