Robert "Bob" Lewis Gibby

ROBERT "BOB" LEWIS GIBBY, age 79, of Cornelia, GA, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born on April 29, 1927 in Habersham County, Georgia, he was a son of the late Oscar Lee and Bessie Payne Gibby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ozelle Brady Gibby. Mr. Gibby was a retired claims manager with the Georgia Mutual Insurance Company with over 30 years of service and he was the former Vice President of the Southern Claims Association. He was a member of the Level Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Gibby was a United States Navy World War II veteran having served as the nose gunner on a PBM. He took part in 87 missions in the Western Pacific sinking enemy shipping and rescuing downed airmen from the sea. Mr. Gibby received two air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Survivors include: his wife: Billie Dunagan Gibby, Cornelia, GA; Daughter: Judy Batchelor, Snellville, GA; Step-daughters: Brenda Papageorge, Acworth, GA; Becky Hollifield, Cleveland, GA; Son: Bobby Gibby, Flowery Branch, GA; Step-son: Wayne Wilson, Alpharetta, GA; Sister: Ruth Faulkner, Marietta, GA; Brother: Farry Lee Gibby, Conyers, GA; 9 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2006 from the Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brian James officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Level Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
