Rev. L.R. "Lee Roy" Chastain, age 99, of Demorest, GA went home to be with his Lord and Master on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Rev. Chastain was born in Pickens County, SC on November 23, 1911, to the late Madison A. and Rosie Posey Chastain. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Lonnie, Carl, Mark, Waymon who was killed in action during World War II, Leonard and Burley Chastain, a sister, Mary Queen, and great-granddaughter, Alexandra Foster. He was a United States Veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. Rev. Chastain was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He founded the Wolffork Christian Fellowship Center in 1960 serving as pastor until 2008. Rev. Chastain was also with the Fieldale Corporation and after retiring, continued working as a custodian at the Habersham County Court House, retiring there at the age 83. Survivors include, beloved wife of 70 years, Rosa Lee Bingham Chastain, Demorest, GA; daughters, Pat Galloway, Clarkesville, GA and Pam Chastain, Demorest, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Pat Chastain, Demorest, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Annie Chastain, Mountain City, GA; sister-in-law, Dot Chastain, Jefferson, GA; 9 grandchildren and spouses, Carlita and Billy Turk, Teresa and Billy Ford, Sonya and David Eash, Ricky and Fran Chastain, Mike and Sonia Chastain, Kim and Mark Hughes, Casey and Whitney Chastain, Donnie and Nikki Bennett, Darrell and Rebecca Bennett; 31 great-grandchildren, He was a precious Husband, Daddy, Papa, Pastor, and Friend to all his life touched. Our loss is great. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011, at Wolffork Christian Fellowship Center, Rabun Gap Georgia, with Rev. Harvey Conner and Rev. Wayne Presley. Burial will follow in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery, Dillard, GA with full military honors. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA and again at 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Wolffork Christian Fellowship Center.
