REV. CHARLIE GRAYSON THOMAS, age 90, of Baldwin died Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Rev. Thomas was born on August 15, 1918 in Hall County, GA to the late James Grayson and Gertrude Weaver Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-mother: Myrtle Walker Thomas, a son: Charles Edward Thomas, his sisters: Vadie Armour, Clifford Dyer, Pearlie Armour, and Jimmie Ward, and his brothers: Travis, Melvin, and Billy Thomas. Rev. Thomas was a member of B.C. Grant Baptist Church. He was a farmer until 1951 when he went to work at Gainesville Mill where he worked until retirement. He also worked for Greenway Grocery for a number of years, and worked for Quality Foods in Cornelia from 1992 until his death. Survivors are: his spouse of 69 years: Mellie Ward Thomas, Baldwin, GA; a son and daughter-in-law: Roy and Brenda Thomas, Alto, GA; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Garnett Smith and Pat and Charles Turpin, all of Lula, GA; a daughter-in-law: Carolyn Thomas Mulkey, Alto; his sisters: Winnie Grier, Lula, GA, Phoebe Dodd, Dover, TN; a sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy and Max King, Alto, GA; his brother: Bobby Thomas, Lawrenceville, GA. 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA, with Rev. Doyal Conley officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery, Lula, GA. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 and Thursday, December 11, 2008.
