OTIS FREDRICK WARD, age 79, of Mt. Airy, GA died Monday, November 3, 2008 at a local area hospital, following an extended illness. Mr. Ward was born in Banks County, Georgia on July 1, 1929 to the late Glenn and Lonnie Gowder Ward. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Ward, George Ward, Albert Ward & Glenn Ward, Jr.; his sisters, Mary Lou Lankford & Mildred Hilsman. Mr. Ward was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Ward was a retired electrical right-a-way contractor. Survivors include sister, Elizabeth Turner, Lula, Georgia; brothers, Ernest Ward, Madison, Georgia, Rufus Ward, Eatonton, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Carol Ward, Florine Ward, Margie Ward, & Mary Ward, all of Madison, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Ryals officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA from 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Ward will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday to lie in state until the funeral hour. All family and friends are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA 30531
