OSCAR LAMAR VASSER, age 90, of Cornelia, GA died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Habersham County Medical Center. Mr. Vasser was born on June 3, 1915 in Autauga, AL. He was a son of the late Oscar W. and Edith Warren Vasser and was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Vasser and sisters, Sue Taylor and Edith Caver. Mr. Vasser was a United States 9th Air Force World War II veteran having served his country for nine years. He was the former co-owner of the Motor Inn Service Center with 20 years of service. Mr. Vasser was a member of the Cornelia First Baptist Church; there he was a member of the Southern Baptist Men's Bible Class and a member of the Men's Ministries. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and the Helping Hands. Survivors include: his wife, Elsie Churchwell Vasser, Cornelia, GA; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Nancy Vasser, Badin, NC; Paul and Alicia Vasser, Baldwin, GA; sisters: Eliza Sherrer, Ashford, AL; Edna McBryde, Grande, AL; 3 grandchildren: Jacob Vasser and Dawson Vasser, and Haley Rae Vasser. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2006 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin with Dr. T. Logan Smith and Rev. Greg Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Rabun Co. DAV Chapter #15 and the American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cornelia First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531. ARRANGEMENTS ARE IN THE CARE OF WHITFIELD FUNERAL HOME, SOUTH CHAPEL, BALDWIN, GEORGIA.
