Ora Sullivan

Ora Sullivan, age 85, formerly of Demorest, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009. Mrs. Sullivan was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest and a former member of their quilting group. She was a graduate of Tallulah Falls boarding school and attended Piedmont College. Mrs. Sullivan worked for Southern Bell in Atlanta as a telephone operator. She served in the United States Navy during World War II. Later, as a civilian Mrs. Sullivan was the assistant manager of the day care center on the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and was a children's Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, retired U.S. Navy Chief HMC Robert Eugene Sullivan, parents Payton and Annie Mae Taylor, and sisters Dorothy Taylor and Ruth Welch. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her children Robert Sullivan of Greensboro, Georgia and Jean Durham of Dallas, Georgia, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, sisters Vera Hammonds and Adron Stonecypher, and brother Ray Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. Russ Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest with full Military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post # 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter 15 and Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
