Opal Mcelrath Davis

OPAL MCELRATH DAVIS, age 92, of Cornelia, GA, died Saturday, May 2, 2009. Mrs. Davis was born on March 1, 1917 in Canton, North Carolina to the late Arthur "Ott" W. and Maude Warren McElrath. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie B. Davis, and a grandson, Timothy C. Brown and four brothers, Ernest McElrath, Don McElrath, Fred McElrath, and Carl McElrath. Mrs. Davis was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church in Candler, NC. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills with 10 years of service and was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing. Survivors include: her daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Don Crump, Baldwin, GA; Ida Mae and Carl Brown, Jr., Cornelia, GA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pisgah Highway, Candler, North Carolina. Those planning to attend the service can arrive at 2:00 p.m. to visit with the family at the nearby Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday.
