OLAN ALBERT QUEEN, age 84, of Cornelia, Georgia, died Monday April 14, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Queen was born on November 18, 1923 in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Riley and Nancy Carlille Queen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Marie Gunter Shell and his step-sons, James Gunter, Jerrell Gunter, and Jimmy Gunter. Mr. Queen was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church. He was a Unites States Coast Guard veteran having served in World War II. Mr. Queen was a retired lieutenant with the Georgia Department of Corrections, LACI, Alto, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officer's Association. Survivors include, his wife, Catherine Norris Queen, Cornelia, GA, his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Gene Pruitt, Cornelia, GA, his sister, Martha Lou Sells, Winder, GA, his granddaughter and her husband, Kristy and Matthew Hill, Baldwin, GA, his granddaughter, Kimberly Pruitt, Baldwin, GA; Seven Step-grandchildren, Jimmy Johnson, Baldwin, GA, Angie Fields, Alpharetta, GA; Brad Norris, Homer, GA, Chad Gunter, Lawrenceville, GA, Gail Fairclough, Baldwin, GA, Gwen Lowden, Baldwin, GA, Chuck Johnson, Baldwin, GA; Eight step-great-grandchildren, Four step-great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Mt. View Baptist Church with Rev. James Harvey and Rev. Scott Slaton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 as well as honors provided by the Honor Guard from LACI. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
