Mrs. Merle Baxa Brake

MERLE BAXA BRAKE, age 98, of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011. Mrs. Brake was born on September 26, 1912, in Eden, West Virginia to the late James Edwards and Icie Charlotte "Lottie" Smith Baxa. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Doncel Brake; one brother and four sisters; a niece, Leonora Talboth Stracles. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Brake attended Parkersburg, West Virginia's Business College and worked for several years as a secretary. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brake was a member of Rock Cave Methodist Church in West Virgina and attended Alto Baptist Church. Survivors include her nephew and his wife, James and Frances Boone, Ocala, FL; niece and her husband, Dorthy Lee and Dan Dutchess, Winchester, VA; two nephews and two nieces on her husband's side by marriage; and many great nephews and great nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Poling St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, West Virginia with Rev. Kara Phillippi officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Cave Cemetery in Rock Cave, West Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. just prior to the funeral service on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Poling St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
