Morene Garrison Coffee

MORENE GARRISON COFFEE, age 95, of Demorest, Georgia, died Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Habersham County Medical Center. Mrs. Coffee was born on March 26, 1913 in Franklin County, Georgia to the late John Marvin and Ollie McDuffie Garrison. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, her husband, Woodrow Wilson "Jack" Coffee, her brother, Howard Garrison and her brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne "Shorty" and Madelene Garrison. Mrs. Coffee was a 1930 Graduate of the Franklin County High School and graduated from Piedmont College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and obtained her Master's Degree from The University of Georgia. She was a school teacher for 41 ½ years having taught in Franklin, Rabun, Jackson, and Habersham County school systems. Mrs. Coffee was awarded Teacher of the Year in Habersham County in 1974 and was inducted in the Habersham County Teacher's Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Demorest Baptist Church. Mrs. Coffee was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law: Marvin and Lynn Coffee, Cornelia, GA; her granddaughter: Mary Beth Coffee, Cornelia, GA; her sisters-in-law: Louise Garrison, Carnesville, GA; Evelyn Garrison, Griffin, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Dr. Tom Mewborn officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
