Monika F. Lynch

MONIKA F. LYNCH, age 81, Athens, Georgia, passed away on July 29, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Lynch was born in Dresden, Germany on July 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Rudolf and Antonie Fehrmann. Mrs. Lynch was of the Lutheran faith. She came to the United States in 1955. Mrs. Lynch married J. Walter Lynch of Cornelia in 1959. Both being Professors at Georgia Southern, they moved to Statesboro, Georgia. Upon their retirement in 1997, they relocated to Athens GA. During her retirement years, Mrs. Lynch took great pride in spending quality time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dogs. In addition to her beloved husband of 54 years, Walter, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Thornton Johnston, Athens, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cindy Lynch, Memphis, TN; son, David Lynch, Marietta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Annelies, Fehrmann, Petersburg, Germany; five grandchildren, Melanie Lynch, Los Angeles, CA, Danielle Lynch, Malibu, CA, Michael Lynch, Memphis, TN, Grady "ULY" Johnston and Annabel Johnston, both of Athens, GA. Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Lloyd Free officiating. A private interment was held earlier. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Athens Area Humane Society ,1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677, or Saint Mary's Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Road, Bogart, GA 30622 Arrangements are in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
