Mellie Ward Thomas

MELLIE WARD THOMAS, age 86, of Baldwin, GA passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Born in Hall County, GA on May 23, 1923, she was the daughter of Fred and Winnie Jackson Ward. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charlie Grayson Thomas, son, Charles Edward Thomas, brothers, Garnett and Elbert Ward. She was a member of the B.C. Grant Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas retired with many years of service at Carwood Manufacturing. She ran an alteration business from her home. Mrs. Thomas was a loving, caring mother, and friend to all. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Brenda Thomas, Alto, GA; her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Garnett Smith, Lula, GA and Pat and Charles Turpin, Baldwin, GA; sisters, Willie Mae McCommin, Gillsville, GA, Versie Wiley, Lula, GA, Jean Wiley, Lula, GA and Julia Collett, Lula, GA; brother, John D. Ward, Alto, GA;daughter-in-law, Carolyn Thomas Mulkey, Alto,GA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and a special family friend Dr. Ellen Briggs, Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2009 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, GA with Rev. Doyal Conley officiating. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
