Mathilda Webster Scroggs

Mathilda Webster Scroggs, age 93, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Ms. Scroggs was born on April 13, 1922 in Habersham County, Georgia to the late Edgar Allen and Lodemia Perkins Webster. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bascom H. Scroggs and several brothers and sisters. Mathilda was an active member of First Baptist Church, Cornelia, where she had served as a deacon, was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years, was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, and was a member and leader of the WMU of the church. Mathilda was a founding worker of Camp Agape which was established by First Baptist Church in 1974. She was a former member of the Habersham Baptist Association where she had served as a member of the Executive Committee. Mathilda served a term as a trustee of the Georgia Baptist Foundation and Endowment Committee and also served for two years as Vice President of the Trustees of the Foundation. She was also a former trustee of the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes. She retired from Habersham Federal Savings and Loan with 40 years of faithful service. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Cornelia with Dr. Eric Spivey and Rev. David Turner to officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2015.
