Mary Carryl Pope Veal

Mary Carryl Pope Veal , age 96, of 504 Old Historic U.S. 441, Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016. Mrs. Veal was born on September 8, 1919 in Sneads, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Stewart Pope and Macye Queen Ivester Pope; husband, Samuel Joshua Veal, Sr.; son, Samuel Joshua "Josh" Veal, Jr.; sisters, Catherine Kingry; Mildred Rudd Wilson; and identical twin sister, Annette Nicholson. Mrs. Veal was a graduate of Young Harris College; where she met her husband Sam, and they married on March 4, 1944. She served in The United States Navy and was stationed at Ellison Field in Pensacola, Florida until she was honorable discharged in 1945. Mrs. Veal was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church. She retired as the Director of Regional Administration from The Federal National Mortgage Association, (Fannie Mae). They raised one son and retired to North Georgia. Mary had a deep love of nature, animals, family and friends. She embraced and devoted her entire spirit to everyone she met. She is now with the three men she most loved, Sam, Josh, and the Lord. Survivors include her step-daughter, Jan Peitso; daughter-in-law, Debra Lynn Veal; brothers, William "Bill" Pope, 93 of Pell City, AL; Ivester Pope, 92 of Pell City, AL; grandchildren, Catherine Lane, 44 of Newnan, GA; Amber Leigh Veal, 27 of Fayetteville, AK; great-grandchildren, Jessica Ryan O'Halloran, 24 of Newnan, GA; Samuel Joshua Lane, 4 of Newnan, GA. Memorial Graveside Services will be held at a later date. Family and Friends will be invited to a graveside service and celebration of life following.
