Mary Frances Smith "Granny" Green

MARY FRANCES SMITH "GRANNY" GREEN, age 89, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Green was born on January 14, 1924, in Toccoa, Georgia; daughter of the late John A. and Arizona Hicks Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Harrison Green, Jr.; sister, Eldonia Brock; brothers, Flem, Lee, J.C., Robert, James, and Marshall Smith; and daughter-in-law, Janice Coleman Green. Mrs. Green was a member of Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church, Habersham County Senior Citizens, and the Red Hat Club. She retired from Ethicon. Mrs. Green was a wonderful cook and liked good food. She enjoyed day trips, great company, a good laugh, and hymns, but most of all she loved her family. Her family and friends have yards filled with beautiful flowers that she had shared with them over the years. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Winford Hendrix, Clarkesville, GA, Nancy and Michael Lewallen, Cornelia, GA, and Beth and Kenneth Goss, Demorest, GA; sons, David Green and Dennis Green, both of Demorest, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Janet Green, Cornelia, GA, Dale and Carol Green, Clarkesville, GA, and Randall and Sheila Green, Demorest, GA; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Jonathan Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
