Mary Ellen Allen Means

MARY ELLEN ALLEN MEANS, age 89, of Clarkesville, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Habersham County Medical Center. Mrs. Means was born on March 16, 1919 in Goldsboro, NC to the late Benjamin Harrison, Sr. and Nancy Catherine Jones Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. (Bob) Means, two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Means was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and a cook with the Habersham County School System and the Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School with several years of service. Mrs. Means, along with her husband, Bob, ran the YMCA Camp, Camp Skyuka, in Columbus, North Carolina for many years. Survivors include: her daughters: Linda Means Kelly, Demorest, GA; Gail Means Beisiegel, Charlotte, NC; Dr. Constance Elizabeth Means Nunley, Houschton, GA; her sons: Dwight M. Means, Thomaston, GA; Robert Hugh Means, Greenville, SC; William Harrison Means, Atlanta, GA; her sister: Nancy Catherine Sewell, Demorest, GA; her brother: Benjamin Harrison Allen, Jr., Hillsville, VA; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Cashion and Rev. Tommy Stowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ashland Community, Carnesville, GA. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia from 7 until 9 p.m. on Saturday.
