Mary Elizabeth Rice Gordon

Mary Elizabeth Rice Gordon, age 90, of Mt. Airy, GA, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 in a private care facility. Mrs. Gordon was born on June 17, 1917, in Banks Co., GA, to the late Judge and Addie Keesler Rice. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank E. Gordon whom she married on Nov. 14, 1936. Mrs. Gordon was also preceded in death by her sister, Dede Hanley, and her brothers, James, Johnny, and Frank Willis Rice. She was a retired seamstress from Cluette Peabody Co., a manufacturer of Arrow shirts. Mrs. Gordon was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church in the Lakewood Community, Atlanta, GA, and was currently a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. Survivors are: her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Cheryl Gordon, Demorest, GA; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Roy Dale, Lula, GA, and Avis and Jeff Jefferys, Stockbridge, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, Carmon and Nettie Rice, Loganville, GA. 3 grandchildren and their spouses: Geri and Craig Keener, Kevin and Melanie Gordon, and Steve and Nicole Gordon. 8 great-grandchildren: Katie, Josh, James, Dana, Paul, Chandler, Meagan, and Cole. Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Smith and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gordon will be placed in the church at 2:30 PM on Saturday, and all family and friends are asked to meet at the church by 2:45PM. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA from 7-9 PM on Friday, June 13, 2008, and on Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM prior to the funeral service.
