Mary Ann Dover Whitten

MARY ANN DOVER WHITTEN, age 82, of Cornelia, Georgia, died on Friday, July 6, 2012, after a brief illness at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. Whitten was born on April 14, 1930, in Habersham County, Georgia; daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Dooley Dover. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Whitten; brothers, Arthur, Wilburn, and Earl Dover; and sisters, Essie Harris and Ruth Hill. Mrs. Whitten was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mary Ann was well known for her quick wit and out spoken demeanor. Mrs. Whitten had endless friends and could always be found on the phone or on the road. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing cards with her grandchildren - she personally taught each one. Everyone will truly miss visiting with her. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Fred Stinespring, Mt. Airy, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Judy Whitten, Kingston, NH; brother, Clarence Dover, Demorest, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Louise Dover, Mt. Airy, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Layton and Barbara Whitten, Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Tiffany Reynolds and her spouse, Matt, Heather Pitts, Andrew Pitts, Jessica Whitten, Lauren Whitten, and Joel Whitten; great-grandchildren, Cloe and Ella Reynolds; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Memorial Park in Demorest, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the funeral home.
