MARVIN JAMES RAMEY, JR., age 67, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011, at the Habersham Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Mr. Ramey was born on June 21, 1944, in Rabun County, Georgia; a son of the late Marvin James Ramey, Sr. and Ruth Griffin Ramey. He was a United States Army veteran having proudly served in the 4th Infantry Division during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Ramey was also of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Bruce Ramey, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and Cary Slaton, Demorest, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Wayne and Maria Ramey, San Francisco, CA; sisters, Sara Lawson, Gainesville, GA, Betty Canup, North Carolina, and Evelyn Heirboghen, Alto, GA; nine grandchildren, Keyla, James, Robbie, and Ajonta Ramey, Kaleb and Blake Slaton, Alexia Dodson, Victoria Ramey, and Katelyn Jones; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Dodson. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Rev. Stephen Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to The Marvin J.
