MARGARETTE IVESTER SMITH, age 74, of Alto, Georgia, passed away at her residence on Friday, November 7, 2014 following an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born April 13, 1940 in Mt. Airy, Georgia to the late Alford and Flora Littleton Ivester. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ray Smith; brothers, Efford Ivester, Henry Ivester; and sister, Ellie Ivester English. She was a member of Silver Shoals Baptist Church and Homer Eastern Star Lodge #542. She was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing with 19 years' service and was retired from Warren Featherbone with several years' service. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Perry R. Smith of Alto, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Jessie and Chuck Gilliland of Alto, and Tina and Jeremy Pugh of Midland; sons and daughters-in-law, Amos and Michelle Smith of Lula, Georgia, John and Jessie Smith of Alto, Tim and Deneise Salyers of Cumming; brothers, John Ivester and Ray Ivester, both of Toccoa, Georgia, and Jim Ivester of Clarkesville, Georgia; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel in Baldwin with Rev. Ray Davis and Rev. Perry Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 P.M. Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the funeral home.
