LOVENIE ERWIN SIMMONS, age 85, of Cornelia, GA, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011. Mrs. Simmons was born on March 3, 1925, in Habersham County, GA to the late John Candler and Margie Morris Erwin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Earnest, Coleman, Ray, Lewis and Homer "Skinny" Erwin, sisters, Maybelle Ivie, Caroline Watkins, Pauline Batson, and Fannie Tilson. She was a homemaker. Survivors include, wonderful husband of 68 years, Burch Simmons, Cornelia, GA; daughter, Brenda Dean, Cornelia, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Bernice Simmons, Cornelia, GA, Wayne and Grace Simmons, Cleveland, GA and Glenn and Brenda Simmons, Cleveland, GA; sisters, Ethel Smith and Ollie Tench, both of Cornelia, GA; 10 Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 14, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA with Rev. David Tilson and Rev. Paris Whitworth. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 13, 2011, Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
