Leroy Smith

LEROY SMITH, age 95 of Lula, GA died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at a local medical center. Mr. Smith was born in Banks County, GA on July 25, 1912 to the late William "Bill" and Thanie Cagle Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, Edgar Smith; brothers Enos Smith, LJ Smith; sisters Idell Saxon, Mozelle Worley, Vernie Echols, Lillie Bell Smith and Essalene Wheeler. Mr. Smith was a member of Belton Baptist Church and retired employee at Southern Railway with 31 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Crumley Smith, of Lula; sons daughters-in-law, Royce and Mary Alice Smith, Murrayville; Willard and Joyce Smith, Baldwin; Baxter and Shirley Smith, Lula; son, Joel Smith, Lula; sister, Lucille Smith, Lula; brother, Troy Smith, Lula; seven grandchildren, Bradley Smith, Tabitha Sims, Deane Dyer, Jennifer Moore, Ryan Smith, Amanda Gaddy, and Leslie McClure; and five great-grandchildren, Tiffany Sims, Kyle Smith, Maggie Dyer, Luke Moore, and Isaac Moore. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA with Rev. Paul Morris and Rev. Cecil Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Belton Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Shane Wehunt officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the funeral home.
