Leonard Lee Purdy Sr.

Leonard Lee Purdy Sr., age 85, of Commerce, GA died Monday, November 24, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Decatur, GA. Mr. Purdy was born on September 15, 1923 in Habersham County, Georgia to the late Roy Atlas and Lillie Shirley Purdy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Clara Parker Purdy, three sons, Richard T. Purdy, Douglas D. Purdy, and Larry W. Purdy, and a brother, Garnett Purdy. Mr. Purdy was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the European Theatre during W.W. II and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was an Independent Truck Driver. Survivors include, sons, Leonard L. Purdy, Jr., Commerce, GA, Johnny D. Purdy, Statham, GA; sisters, Jeanette Flournoy, Cornelia, GA, Hellen Vinson, Cornelia, GA, Dorothy Mae Kimbrell, Mt. Airy, GA, Imogene Trotter, Cornelia, GA; brother, Leroy Purdy, Beaumont, TX; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest with Rev. Doyal Conley officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, The Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and The Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.
