Lassie Philyaw Payne

Lassie Philyaw Payne, age 89 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Tate's Creek Community, passed away early Thursday morning, January 15, 2009. Mrs. Payne was born on January 10, 1920 in Winslow, Arizona to the late Arthur and Bessie Ragsdale Philyaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy M. Payne. She had a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lassie is survived by her children: Roy Felton Payne of Maryville, TN, Gail Payne Hulme of Farragut, TN, Arthur Payne of Tampa, FL and Candace Payne Anders of Boulder, CO; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:30 -10:30 am Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Tate's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.
