Larry Michael Hill

LARRY MICHAEL HILL, Educator, age 64, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Mr. Hill was born on November 15, 1949 in Clarkesville, Georgia; son of the late Claude and Dora Lucy Sloan Hill. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Hill Dyer Williams, Helen Ann Hill; and brother, Louis Henry Hill. He was a graduate of North Habersham High school, Piedmont College, and the University of Georgia with both a Masters and Specialist Degrees. Mr. Hill was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught the Boaz Sunday School class for a number of years. He was also a member of the Habersham Rotary Club. Mr. Hill was assistant principal and taught at North Hall High School; assistant principal at Habersham Central High School, and was principal at South Habersham Middle School for over 20 years from which he retired. He continued in the Habersham County school system as principal of the Alternative School and was appointed Interim School Superintendent. Mr. Hill was presently serving as Administrative Assistant for facilities. He had a passion for education and dedicated his life to it. Mr. Hill loved his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening, which he loved, farming, fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Betty Ann Sutton Hill, Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Leah Hill, Ellijay; daughter and fiancé, Brandi Hill Moore and David Thompson, Demorest; grandchildren, Coleman Michael Hill, Alexander Warren Hill, Ethan James Tomlin, and Luke Joseph Moore; sisters, Peggy Hill Taylor, Clarkesville; Betty Hill Draucker Chokos, Savannah; a number of nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Clarkesville Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Walden and Rev. David Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
