Julia Austelle Henderson Martin

JULIA AUSTELLE HENDERSON MARTIN, age 102, of Cornelia, GA, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at a private care facility. Mrs. Martin was born on December 31, 1905 in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Dawson Adams and Maude Lenora Brown Henderson. She was the widow of John Walter Martin. Mrs. Martin was a graduate of the Cornelia High School and attended LaGrange College. She was the oldest member of the Cornelia United Methodist Church; there she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and was treasurer of her class for many years as well as a member of the Cornelia United Methodist Women. Mrs. Martin was formerly employed with the Habersham County Clerk's Office and The Tallulah Falls Railroad, as Freight Clerk, with 13 years of service. She was last employed with William's Dress Shop as a bookkeeper, having retired on January 1, 1990. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law: Clara Sue Martin Popham and Roger Popham, Cornelia, GA; her sister: Martha Lawson, Toccoa, GA; her grandchildren: Cindy Franco, Cumming, GA; Donna Barnett, Cornelia, GA; her step-grandchildren: Kae Sontag, Buford, GA; Bobby Popham, Cornelia, GA 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Cornelia United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Green officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday.
