Joseph Daniel Pulliam

October 20, 1930 — July 25, 2024

Joseph Daniel Pulliam passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 93 in Demorest.

He was born on October 20, 1930, in Toccoa to Asben Aaron Pulliam and Lona Eunice Bell Pulliam. Joe lived in Northeast Georgia for most of his life; only leaving for several years to live in South Florida. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and being a great storyteller.

Joe attended Toccoa High School and had fond memories of being on the basketball team. He also attended North Georgia College Military School in Dahlonega, currently known as University of North Georgia, in 1948 and 1949. He was in the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged on September 9, 1960, at the rank of sergeant first class.

Being a father to his daughter, Jujuan Kristine Jupe, was an important part of his life. He always gave her the best life possible. She is eternally grateful for his wisdom, faithfulness and guidance.

Professionally, Joe was known to be a successful businessman. He worked for several companies throughout his career, oftentimes using his mechanically-inclined mind to problem solve and even invent ways to help the companies. Later in his career, he worked at Scovill in Clarksville as a Material Control Manager until his retirement.

Joe was an avid reader and, at one point, read the entire inventory of books in his preferred genre at the local libraries. After that, he would purchase books by the bundle from the local bookstore. One of his favorite books was the Bible and made a habit of reading scripture every morning.

Joe's faith was also an important part of his life. He attended Eastonollee Baptist Church for many years. Later in life, he attended Demorest Baptist Church where he enjoyed Reverend Mewborn's sermons and Brenda's piano playing. He was known to arrive at church early in order to sit quietly and feel the Holy Spirit. He would also take this time to pray for his loved ones.

In his retirement, Joe was fortunate to reconnect with a former coworker, Helen Coker, who became his best friend for over 24 years. Helen's family became his extended family, and he loved them very much. Joe and Helen traveled by car all over the United States and shared many adventures along the way. Eventually purchasing houses on the same street as each other, they would keep in contact daily by phone or in person. He was blessed to have Helen and her family in his life.

Joe's love of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren was evident by the smile on his face whenever they were mentioned in conversation, and he would visit them whenever he could.

Joe was a resident of Magnolia Hills Assisted Living in the final days of his life. Joe's family would like to thank the staff who treated him like a family member. We are eternally grateful for the love and care that was provided for him.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Willene Hubbard Pulliam; nephew, Chip Pulliam; and nephew, Michael Jay Pulliam. He is survived by his daughter, Jujuan; his brother, Bobby Ray (Kay) Pulliam; granddaughter, Danah (Jack) Frens; grandson, Jason (Glena) Doorlag; niece, Tricia Hazen; great-grandchildren, Maggie (David) O'Rourke, Emma Frens, and Andrew Frens; and great-great-grandchildren, Lily and Nixie O'Rourke.
