John Serpa

John Serpa, age 59, of Alto, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 20, 2017, following a sudden illness. Mr. Serpa was born on July 20, 1958, in Jacksonville, North Carolina; a son of the late Robert R. Serpa, Sr. and Annie L. Serpa. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert R. Serpa, Jr. John was a United States Army Veteran having proudly served his country. At the time of his death, Mr. Serpa was employed with Scovill with 32 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was of the Holiness faith. Survivors include his wife, Sheri Ferguson Serpa of Alto; son, Vance W. Serpa of Alto; sisters, Chrystal Ann Chapin of Athens and Lynn Ruth Griffeth of Commerce; and brother, Christopher David Serpa of Commerce. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Dennis Wade officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, Habersham County American Legion Post #84, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P.O.
