John Petitt

Mr. Petitt was born on February 10, 1932 in White Couty, Georgia to the late James Harbert and Sarah Loucinda Thomas Petitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, JD Petitt, Robert Petitt, and Eli Petitt; sisters, Rose Gooch, and Mae Loggins.
John proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military career, John embarked on a career in the auto body repair industry. He honed his craft over decades, dedicating 20 years of his career to Barron's Body Shop and an additional 16 years to his own business, John's Body Shop at Home. Outside of his professional endeavors, John found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending countless hours tending to his garden and cutting grass. He cherished every moment with his beloved grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as "Pa."
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Edith Fain Petitt, of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Ricky" and Jacqueline Petitt, of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Terry McEntire, of Alto; son, Gary Scott Petitt, of Cornelia; sister, Mary Lou Skelton, of Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bernie Blakney, of Cleveland; brother, Lum "L.G." Petitt, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Josh McEntire and Stacy, Jeremy McEntire and Kristen; Benjamin Petitt, Nicklas Petitt, and Aimee Petitt; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Brady, Nolan, and Jonah.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Paul Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2025 at the funeral home.
