John H. Myers, SR., age 93, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Mr. Myers was born on June 29, 1922 in Banks County, Georgia to the late Burt and Leasie Hogsed Myers. He attended Alto C.H. Church. Mr. Myers was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. He was a retired employee of Habersham Hardware with 34 years of service. He loved to travel and play music. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Izora Coley Myers; daughters, Elaine Manus, Brenda Gail Myers; son, Marshall Gene Myers; sons-in-law, Joel Manus, and Donald R. Lord. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and James Thompson, of Alto; Geraldine and Jerry Nunnally, of Cornelia; daughter, Carol Myers Lord, of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Hamp and Joyce Myers, of Alto; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Alto Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Leon Brown and Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. Mr. Myers will be placed in the church to lie in state from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by The United States Navy. The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
