John Howard Merritt, Jr.

John Howard Merritt, Jr., age 90, of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at a private care facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia following an extended illness. Mr. Merritt was born on March 20, 1925 in Greenville, MO., to the late John Howard Merritt, Sr. and Eva Welch Merritt. He was a member of Clarkesville Presbyterian Church, and a retired Machinist with Boeing. Mr. Merritt was a disabled War World II Veteran due to a war time injury. He was also past president of his American Legion Chapter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Steil Merritt; daughters, Ella Mae Merritt, Eva Gail Werner; son, John Kenneth Merritt; brother, Morris Emory Merritt, and sister, Syble Ragsdale. Mr. Merritt was the last surviving member of his family. Survivors include several grandchildren. Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date.
