Joe Speed

Joe Speed, age 72, of Clayton, Georgia, went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 following an extended illness. Mr. Speed was born on October 18, 1944 in Clayton, Georgia to the late Joe and Samantha Moore Speed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Williams, Janie Richardson, Dottie Cathey, Neal Sherin, Debbie Wright; brothers, Paul Speed, Hoyt Speed, and Virge Speed. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Clayton, Georgia. Mr. Speed was a United States Navy Veteran. He was retired from General Motors with 32 years of loyal and dedicated service. After retirement, Joe worked part-time as a clerk with Days Inn. Survivors include his wife, Nita Speed, of Clayton; son, Paul Speed, of Clayton; sisters, Carrie Crane, of Clayton; Lucy Staton, of McDonough; Kathryn Revis, of Alpharetta; and Belle Taylor, of Clayton. Memorial Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Clayton, Georgia with Rev. Raymond Page officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7245 Warwoman Road, Clayton, Georgia 30525.
