JIMMY A. GARNER, age 72, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 following a sudden illness. Mr. Garner was born on November 12, 1940, in Clarkesville, Georgia, to the late J.D. and Ione Taylor Garner. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, B.J. Garner and Dale H. Garner. Mr. Garner retired from H.E.M.C having started his career as a lineman and retired as a manager. After he retired he worked for 9 years at a gift shop at Unicoi State Park; he also served with Habersham County Auxiliary for 6 years and volunteered with Sharing and Caring for a number of years. Mr. Garner was a veteran of the United States Navy having proudly served his country with serving two tours during the Vietnam conflict. Mr. Garner was member of Stone Pile Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Harvey, Holiday, FL; sisters, Barbara Garner Wood, Demorest, Carol Garner Kimbrell, Cornelia, Betty Garner Ferguson, Cleveland, Kathy Garner Clark, Alto; Grandchildren, Caleb Naumann and Kiel Naumann, Palm Harbor, FL, Rachel Naumann, Tarpon Springs, FL; Special niece and nephew Denise Gailey and Shane Wood; a number of other nieces and nephews and the love of his life, Carol Dill, Cornelia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Milton Harris and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Navy Color Guard, The Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Flowers are accepted or donations made to a church or a charity of one's choice.
