Jewell Nichols Carnes

JEWELL NICHOLS CARNES, age 84, of Clarkesville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at a private care facility following an extended illness. Mrs. Carnes was born on August 25, 1928, in Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter of the late Alfred and Gatha Bradshaw Nichols. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carver M. Carnes; brothers, Uriel Nichols and R.C. Nichols; and sister, Niota Gibson. Mrs. Carnes retired from Fieldale Farms Corporation and was a lifetime member of Mountain City Church of God. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jerry Sullivan, Cornelia, GA; brother, Garlin Nichols, Pontiac, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Austin Ivester officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkesville. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the funeral home.
