James "Papa" Owen Hall

OWEN "PAPA" HALL SR., age 75, of Clarkesville, GA formerly of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009. Mr. Hall was born in Benson, NC on June 4, 1933 to Leonard B. and Eula Mangum Hall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma B. Hall, a sister, Pauline Perry, and two brothers, John B Hall and Charles Milby Hall. He was of the Baptist faith, and graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors Degree in 1961. Mr. Hall was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served as Lieutenant in the Korean Conflict. He retired with over 25 years of dedicated service in management with the Centers for Disease Control. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Michael Hunt, Auburn, GA, and Jerri and Tony McIlwain, Dacula, GA; son, James O. Hall, Jr., Dacula, GA; three grandchildren, Michael Hunt, Maggie McIlwain, and Tony McIlwain Jr.; one Great-grandchild, Kaleb Chander. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at 5-8 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2009 and 3-6 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
