James Ketron "Jim" Barron

JAMES KETRON "JIM" BARRON, age 67, currently a resident of St. Mary's Highland Hills and formerly of Hull, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart, Georgia. Mr. Barron was born in Clarkesville, Georgia, on August 7, 1944, to Evelyn R. Barron of Watkinsville, Georgia, formerly of Demorest, and the late John K. Barron. Jim was a 1963 graduate of South Habersham High School. After high school, he worked for Lockheed in Marietta, Georgia before joining the United States Army. A highly decorated soldier, Mr. Barron was a Green Beret with the 129th Assault Helicopter Company, while fighting in the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning from Vietnam, he attended Piedmont College and the University of Georgia. Mr. Barron then began working at Reliance Electric/Rockwell Automation where he was in management for 33 years. He was a member of Demorest Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, Mr. Barron is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ashleigh and Brian Baker, Watkinsville, GA; sisters, Elizabeth Barron Nix, Clarkesville, GA and Becky Brown, Watkinsville, GA; brother, Bill Barron, Clarkesville, GA; grandson and his wife, Corporal Brett and Brittany Baker, Beaufort, SC (he is currently serving his country in Afghanistan); grandson, Colby Baker, Watkinsville, GA; granddaughter and her husband, Briana and Whitney Sapp, Hull, GA; granddaughter, Brileigh Baker, Watkinsville, GA and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Dr. Tom Mewborn officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and the Georgia National Guard. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the funeral home.
